Wearing sunscreen for women of color is something rather new for us Brownies. While others have been aware for many years of the perils of not wearing sunscreen for us brown skinned girls are just now making sunscreen a part of our beauty regimen. But now that we know, we can't afford to go unprotected and suffer the suns risks! No matter how much melanin we have in our skin, sunscreen for Brown skin is required.
The Risks of Not Using Sunscreen:
- Sunburn, which results from damaged cells and blood vessels
- A leathery looking skin
- Skin that bruises more easily
- Skin cancer-the most common of all skin cancers, does affect brown skin
Now that we are aware of needing sunscreen we want to make sure that we are using products that are most favorable! I found a sunscreen for us that I positively love! I have dry skin and I am very conscientious of its dryness so I require a sunscreen that is a moisturizing product that protects as well.
Avon's Anew Solar Advance sunscreen is a thick and heavy sunscreen with UVA and UVB. On a cold day it provided a heavy amount of moisturizer all the way until the end of the day with no other protection. If I am out and about or on the beach that is a big deal-especially if I am not wearing another lotion or moisturizer on my beautiful, brown skin.
It smells pleasant and I also really appreciated that The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends the ANEW Solar Advance Sunscreen as helpful in preventing sun damage to skin.
