However, everybody may not be completely excited about your new, little, furry bundle of joy! When you have an animal, especially a dog, remember that noise can be as smelly as a big pile of poop! So keep your pet space pleasant by showing a little bit of “Pettiquette!” Weather you live in a home or a condo there are a few things that you can do to keep your little mongrel well-mannered! Your pet and your neighbors will thank you for it!
- Mind marketing hours 9 am -7 pm when letting your dog out for a potty break! This will also make your life easier to free you from 3 am potty breaks, train a pet up the way that they should go!!
- If you are letting your dog out to go relieve themselves and it is after “marketing” hours or first thing in the morning, make sure that you do not let your dog go crazy barking. A dog will bark for all types of reasons and your dog barking while your neighbor might be sleeping is not the most neighborly behavior.
- If your dog is outside during the day make sure that they are not barking for more than 15 minutes…it is irritating AND a dog barking more than 15 minutes can get Animal Control at your door.
- Do Unto Others!!...If there is something that your pet is doing that is “un-neighborly” try and be proactive and protect the relationship with your neighbor you never know when you may need some sugar some day!
An animal can be like a child, when well-mannered they are a fun addition to your life, when they are poorly mannered it is simply a reflection on your lack of dedication to making their life more structured! Display Pettiquette!
I will have a whole chapter on Petiquette in The Urban Girls Guide to Etiquette, Class and Image, available soon!!!
