New York is the city that never sleeps. There are functions and events at all times of the day and night and as I take in my share of the various festivities you find yourself needing things while on the move. Often times your local corner store wont cut it and a supermarket is too far away or truthfully too expensive, but with Duane Reade stores peppered all over the 5 boroughs it's always right around the corner.
As a guy that deals heavily in social media it's become my personal routine to tag or tweet stores that I frequent just to see how much a business invests into this new wave of customer communication. When I saw how quickly and positively Duane Reade replied back to me I knew they were on top of their game. As my coverage of them increased through blogging via #cbias I saw that not only did they answer questions but they shared excitement when you expressed it to them. When blogging it's more than just writing words and hoping for a reply. It's presenting an opportunity for the viewers, your readers to enter a network. When I share my experiences with Duane Reade online I do it across the board. I write, tweet, Facebook, etc...to let people know what I do and why. I have never had a tweet to Duane Reade not get replied to and that provides a level of confidence that in turn makes me want to share with others. So many businesses take the consumer for granted and I believe that when you find a business that gets it right you need to let others know.
As I was shopping this past weekend for NFL kickoff party items I was reminded of my previous dealings with Duane Reade this past summer. Events like the MLB Fanfest saw Duane Reade as the ideal host site. Giving back to students with Back to School shopping and the Operation Backpack showed the social awareness of Duane Reade. In addition their QR mobile code posted in stores is a novel way to share discount info while creatively engaging customers. Now as @DuaneReade eclipses the 1 million twitter follower mark you see them showering their customers with thank you messages and thanks to those that shopped and reported on the positive experienced shared.
I'm not surprised at all at Duane Reade's follower count growth and I'm only curious as to when they'll hit 2 million. Currently sitting as the social media leader in their retail field I don't see Duane Reade vacating that seat any time soon. Congratulations again. It's well deserved.
