Black Girls Do go Boating!
We get out in the water with fabulous hair, great stunner shades and plenty of wine to keep the party going! I am going to share with you nine tips to keep you looking fly and having a good time when you are out boating with friends for the first of 50th time!
I was invited by my Soror to check out the Delta (no bun intended since we are Delta's!...Ooo-oopp!!) in Northern California, I decided that I had never done that before, I had a new camera to take awesome pics with and that this was a great opportunity to do something new!...so I did!

Black Girls Guide to Boating:
Rule #1 | Wear Sunscreen, and I don't just mean a little bit on your face.
Please go IN on the sunscreen, you can thank me later! There are places that we never think about getting burned...like the back of our necks, our arms and our legs! Also, bring the sunscreen with you. Sunscreen only lasts so long and after a few hours you will need to apply more. We were boating for about 5 hours. I should have re-applied!
Rule #2 | Have Good Food!...and wine.
The sun and the laughs will make you hungry! Have good food! My hostess with the mostess, my Soror Nikki, made us sandwiches! They were positively delicious. Food does not have to be complex, but we appreciated the bread, meat and mustard that was on those sandwiches! Of course I bought the wine! When boating...beer and wine are necessities!
Rule #3 | Opt Out for Lashes and Wear Sunglasses instead!
I wore lashes and if I had not worn sunglasses when the boat was moving, I would never have been able to see a darn thing....well except for lashes. Next time I will not wear lashes, but I will have some good sunglasses! Make sure that they aren't too expensive though, in case they fly off into the water. Same with earrings and hats. The water can get choppy!
Rule #4 | Leave the Wigs and the Hats at home!
Of course I went natural so I didn't have any disappearing wig occurrences. However my big, fab floppy hat...it stayed in the bottom of the boat because I didn't want it to fly off and me be tempted to chase it into the water. That would have been a No-Go!
Rule #5 | Put comfort before cute.
You can thank me later for this as well! Of course I am all about keeping it fly, but you want to be able to have a good time, laugh loud and not trip if your dress gets a little wine on it. Hey, were on a boat there are choppy waters, wind and the boat moves...so sometimes...there are splashes...you don't want to wear anything that you dont mind getting a little messy. But of course keep it cute because the pictures are everything! Check out my Instagram we had a blast!
Rule #6 | Have Good Music!
Make sure that you have that Pandora station turned up because you are going to want to listen to your fave jams!!
Rule #7 | Drink lots of Water before, during and after.
The sun can do a doozy on your skin and system if you are not consuming a lot of water! Make sure that each person has at least 6 bottles per trip-just in case. Dehydration would suck if you are on the water.
Rule #9 | Go with Good People and Leave the False Pretense at home!
Being on the water is very relaxing, fun and chill. You don't want to go with somebody that you have to "tolerate," you want to go with people who like to have fun just like you do! Also, do NOT forget to bring your best attitude with you as well! Leave the Princess at home!
Rule #10 | Protect those Lips!
Lips are so susceptible to burning! So I know that its very tempting to wear lipstick, but that will just make your lips burn more and dry out and trust me, you do NOT want that. So get some coconut oil to apply every so often and of course apply sunscreen! There are some lip balms with sunscreen too that you can try!
Above all else have a good time!...and take lots of pictures!!...See more of our photos here!
Oh and be careful not to drink too much wine! The sun has a way of making alcohol a little more potent! As you can see I was enjoying the wine and the sunshine!
