American Horror Story Coven Goes Black!

Enter American Horror Story

If the commercials alone were not edgy enough for you-the first scene of American Horror Story, Coven, was positively filled with blood, gore and a Minotaur Head.

All because "the help" was buffing one of Madame LaLaurie's (Kathy Bates) slore daughters. Of course he was Black but the OMG was the slew of half dead Black male "pets" that Kathy Bates keeps in her attic-for their Pancreas.

Lawd, Anti-Bellum N'Awlins. No wonder all of those "passing" tragic mulattoes were made.

American Horror Story Body

I positively loved the way that the wrtiers have interwoven new characters in with characters from season one and two. The undying love between Ryan Murphy(Evan Peters) and Season One's Violet.

The new and old Mother/Daughter Relationship between Jessica Lange and Lana Banana/Cordelia Fox.

And the vulnerable little Cajun girl that was in last seasons American Horror Story as Sister Mary Eunice and the first Season as Nora Montgomery.

The well done contrast between New Orleans early 1800's and Social Media Modern Day Post Katrina New Orleans were positively tasty and mind blowing.

I wanted to tweet Jessica Lange myself and send her a #Bravo for rocking those platforms and stilettos as if she was 21.

She gives LIFE to Black on Black.

I reveled in the clear racial under and overtones of Black, White, and whatever Cajun ethnically really means. It's so New Orleans.

American Horror Story Coven 1

Miss Jessica Lange. She knows how to evoke sexy, vulnerable and Supreme Bish. What kind of woman will suck the LIFE out of a man with her juicy lips before she kills him? (very Twilight Zone, yes I have seen that one)...and then revive the robust Kathy Bates from her French Quarter grave for her secret to the Fountain of Youth??...well it's Miss Jessica Lange, of course.

American Horror Story Goes BLACK!

Yes Honey Gabourey Sibide (The Precious, child) was the funny, sassy and side-eyeing Queenie. I know...Queenie in modern times, C'Lawd. I will look forward to and cringe at her snarky words and too tight baby t's.

American Horror Story Sidebey

And the Black Cat was amazing!!...So appropriately placed! But the ultimate black cat of American Horror Story was Miss Angela Bassett, the beautiful Vodoo Witch who changed the course of Madame LaLaurie's plump prejudice life. This woman is timeless, yes she was rocking an Erykah Badu Scarf switching to Boxed Senegalese waist length braids.

American Horror Story Bassett

*snap, snap* ...she is going to upstage Miss Jessica, if they don't watch out.

Angela AHS Snake

But her man Batienne, Clutching my Pearls, that Body Honey! Minotaur head and ALL!

Anybody who has ever been to New Orleans knows that it makes you feel, "Some Kinda way." You can feel the spirits that used to be there and that still haven't moved on, this story is well played on this City. New Orleans. Remember, you are different there.

The Stereotypes Tho?

So was AHS filled with horrible stereotypes? Yes, however each character was a 3 dimensional, complete person. You could love and hate each and every last one of them. Which removed any of the usual Qunten Tarrantino frustration that you might have when racial stereotypes are used to draw you in. American Horror Story Coven, will spit you back out!

Until Next Wednesday.
